Why Montessori?

WHAT IS MONTESSORI?

Montessori education is based on the principle that a child learns best when the social environment supports its unique development.

For this purpose Dr. Montessori created a curriculum and learning materials that provide experiences contributing to the growth of independent learners.

A Montessori classroom is multi-aged. A heterogeneous group of children work in an atmosphere of cooperative learning, peer teaching and emotional development.

Respect for oneself, for others and for the environment is the foundation for the classroom rules that govern the learning community.

The aim of Montessori education is to foster competent, responsible, adaptive citizens who are lifelong learners and problem-solvers.

“The study of child psychology in the first years of life opens to our eyes such wonders that no one seeing them with understanding can fail to be deeply stirred. Our works as adults does not consist in teaching, but in helping the infant mind in its works of development.”
